Zamak

What Is Zamak?

"Zamak" is a term commonly used for a cast metal alloy based primarily on zinc. It usually contains zinc together with aluminium, magnesium, and copper, which gives the material its useful balance of strength, castability, and surface quality.

Industrial Uses of Zamak:

Zamak is widely used in die casting, the automotive industry, and the production of clothing, furniture, and window accessories.

Zamak, also known as Zamac, is the name of a family of zinc alloys. Its basic composition is zinc alloyed with aluminium, magnesium, and copper. Zamak alloys belong to the zinc-aluminium alloy family and are distinguished from other zinc alloys by their balanced aluminium content.

The most common Zamak alloy is Zamak3, but Zamak2, Zamak5 and Zamak7 are used commercially. Zamak3 and Zamak5 are used throughout the conversion casting industry.

Zamak is widely preferred because of its hardness, strength, cost-effective castability, and suitability for surface finishing.

Zamak is suitable for electroplating, chromate plating and wet painting applications.
