Nodular Cast Iron Properties

Ductile Iron

What Is Ductile Iron?

Ductile iron is a special type of cast iron with a spheroidal graphite structure. It is widely preferred in engineering applications because of its durability, strength, and toughness.

Grey and ductile cast iron rods produced by the continuous casting method have been used since the 1960s. Today, they are used in a wide range of sectors including the glass industry, automotive, oil refineries, hydraulic systems, gear manufacturing, and general machinery. One of the main reasons for their preference is their economic advantage, helping reduce production times and tooling costs.

In ductile cast iron, graphite is present in spheroidal form. This improves the toughness and strength of the material while also increasing its resistance to cracking.

Ductile cast iron is produced through a special casting process in which a controlled amount of magnesium is added to the molten iron alloy. This allows the graphite to form a spherical structure.

Application Areas:

Automotive Industry: Ductile cast iron is commonly used in the production of automotive parts such as engine blocks, transmission parts and brake discs.

Construction: Due to its durability and strength, ductile cast iron is used in a variety of applications in the construction industry.

Machine Parts: Its strength properties make it a preferred material for machine parts.

Ductile cast iron is a preferred material in various industries as it generally provides higher strength and toughness than other types of cast iron.
